Virgo – Pisces Axis

This is the sixth and the last axis of the Zodiac. Virgo is the sign of the Virgin Goddess of Fertility Cults of old. Here in Anatolia we used to have the cult of the Virgin Goddess. It was a fertility cult. Kybele of Phrigia and the Ephesian Artemis are its prominent examples.. Ephesian Artemis is different than the Greek Artemis, she is also called Kybele Artemis. This name shows us the tight relation between Kybele and Ephesian Artemis cults.

Virgin means both male and female: vir- and gyn-.These root words can be found even in modern English as in virility and gynecology, gyny still means woman in modern Greek. A virgin is a person who holds both male and female qualities. Consider Athena Parthenon (Parthenon also means virgin), she is a female in a man’s attire and she owns logos, the root principle of the Masculine. That is why the neutral Mercury rules Virgo. Virgo is both male and female so is Mercury. Being an earth sign, Virgo represents for us result of the coexistence of feminine and masculine in one body: fertility.

Virgo is thus the material outcome of the spiritual, or, the ideal.

Virgo represents our desire to manifest the divine design in the physical. The closer we are to the creative source of life, the more divine our reality will become.” says the Moon Woman Tanishka.

Where does Virgo get the divine design, then ? From the other side of the Wheel, from Pisces.

Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, it is the door that opens to other planes of existence. Symbol of Pisces is two fish bound together: they are Aphrodite and Eros: mother and son. Perhaps this symbolism can also relate to the ancient fertility cults in the context of Kybele and Attis, thus we come back to Virgo again.

Pisces is magic. Pisces will have you dream, dive deep and become a mermaid in the end. It is the sign of astral travelers, artists, highly intuitive people, highly sensitive people, dreamers and drug addicts…

Being very creative and dreamy, the Jupiter ruled Pisces can be quite distracted at times. Virgo’s discipline and organization skills (she is the master of material world, after all) can help Pisces put himself together and create. Design and tidiness of a room is as important as creative intuition. Virgo grounds Pisces very well that Pisces remembers that she lives on Earth and not some other place! Pisces is also very prone to addictions. This is when Virgo’s attention to health can be a life-saving quality.

Yet the earth-bound Virgo will learn to dream, dive deep and flow from the intuitive Pisces. When one gets far too embedded in the earthy and everyday matters, he might forget to dream. This is what happens to most people in the modern world. That is why the cities are boring. We get lost in daily routines so we forget that other dimensions and fairies exist. Pisces will just flow into Virgo’s detail filled mundane reality and remind her of fantasy.

Carl Jung says everything is fantasy. The material world is fantasy turned to matter. This is what summarizes the Virgo-Pisces axis. A loss of balance in this axis might leave us as an unfunctional dreamer who gazes at the ceiling and only dreams or a dull everyday person who does not create but lets her days pass in boring routines. A good balance in this axis can work wonders for creating Heaven on Earth.
